Jason and Lucia in GTA 6: the four published sentences about them
Two competing stores publish the same four sentences about Jason and Lucia, in all eight languages. They say where the two characters start from, and not how you play them. That part came from the studio.
The four sentences the publisher has released
The English PlayStation Store listing reads: "Jason and Lucia have always known the deck is stacked against them. But when an easy score goes wrong, they find themselves on the darkest side of the sunniest place in America, in the middle of a criminal conspiracy stretching across the state of Leonida, forced to rely on each other more than ever if they want to make it out alive."
The French listing is slightly vaguer at the starting point, writing "when things go wrong" where the English says "when an easy score goes wrong". The two texts otherwise match.
The Xbox Store publishes the same paragraph, in all eight languages checked. Two competing retailers with the same sentences: that is the publisher's text.
What is established, in short: two named characters, an unfavourable starting position, a botched job, a conspiracy on the scale of a state, and mutual dependence to survive. Nothing else has been published to date.
Both are playable, and switching is not always free
The store listings say nothing about how these two characters are played. That information does not come from them, it comes from the studio, which spoke to the press in late August 2026.
Rob Nelson, co-studio head at Rockstar North, to IGN on 27 August 2026: "you can swap between Jason and Lucia, and nurture their relationship as its own specific unit". Both are therefore playable, and you move from one to the other.
In an interview with Famitsu translated by GamesRadar+ on 31 August 2026, he adds that this move is not free at any moment: "Sometimes [switching characters] is limited by story progression". Some missions impose one character, some require a switch at a set point, some leave the choice open.
He gives an example: a mission set in a high-rise apartment complex originally allowed free switching. It was locked to Jason, ex-special forces, because it would have felt unnatural for Lucia to lead and give instructions that early in the story.
The most common confusion comes from a misread label. The listings carry "1 player", "1 joueur", "1 Spieler" depending on the language. That label counts PLAYERS sitting in front of the console, not characters in the story. A game with several playable characters is still a single-player game.
The previous game demonstrates it on the same store: its three playable characters coexisted with labels that spoke of online player counts instead.
The detail only the Italian version carries
All eight official translations say the same thing, except on one point of grammar that does not exist in every language.
The Italian listing reads: "saranno costretti a contare piu che mai l'uno sull'altra". Masculine, then feminine. It is the only one of the eight official versions whose grammar carries the gender of both characters.
The other seven use a neutral form or a default masculine: "each other" in English, "el uno del otro" in Spanish, "aufeinander" in German.
The detail is small, and it is verifiable in one line. It licenses no deduction beyond what it says.
What the previous game's listing does differently
In the same store, the previous game describes three characters without naming a single one: "a young street hustler, a retired bank robber, and a terrifying psychopath".
Neither Michael, nor Franklin, nor Trevor appears on that page. It describes roles, not identities.
A store listing is therefore not required to name the characters it sells. That GTA 6's gives two first names by its second line is not a shop convention, it is a decision.
That is also what makes those two names quotable: they come from a text the publisher released, not from a trailer reading.
Surnames and the rest, which are not sourced
Surnames, ages, occupations and family ties circulate. They come from trailers analysed frame by frame, from leaks, or from community cross-referencing.
Some may be accurate. None appears on an official listing, and this page repeats none of them.
The rule is the same throughout this site: information that can be neither dated nor tied to a release is not written here, however likely it may be.
Frequently asked questions
- Can you play both characters in GTA 6?
- Yes. Rob Nelson, co-studio head at Rockstar North, said so to IGN on 27 August 2026: you move from Jason to Lucia. The store listings do not write it, and their "1 player" label counts players in front of the console, not characters.
- What are Jason and Lucia's surnames?
- They appear on no official listing. The listings give only the two first names. The surnames going around come from other sources, not verifiable here.
- Why do some sites write Lucia with an accent?
- Because the Spanish store writes it that way, with an accent on the i. The seven other official stores write Lucia without one. Both forms are official, each in its own language.
- Are Jason and Lucia a couple?
- The listings do not say so: they write that they will have to rely on each other to make it out alive. The studio does describe a relationship between them, one you maintain by spending time together in the open world (IGN, 27 August 2026).
- How many playable characters will the game have?
- Two are playable and named, Jason and Lucia. The studio describes moving from one to the other, sometimes freely, sometimes as the mission dictates.
