Read plainly: blood and gore, intense violence, humour for adults, nudity, strong language, explicit sexual content, and the use of drugs and alcohol.

The interactive element listed is "In-Game Purchases", purchases made inside the game.

The page's own summary, word for word: "Grand Theft Auto VI is rated M for Mature 17+ by the ESRB with Blood and Gore, Intense Violence, Mature Humor, Nudity, Strong Language, Strong Sexual Content, and Use of Drugs and Alcohol. Also includes In-Game Purchases."

The page gives no scene-by-scene description and no publication date, so this guide gives neither. Nor does it say where those purchases sit, in the single-player game, in the coming online mode or in a subscription: the ESRB does not say.

What the publisher says in the meantime

Rockstar's own page carries a plain sentence: the game may contain content inappropriate for children, and readers are pointed to the rating board.

That is a warning, not a rating. It tells you the direction without giving the label, and it comes from the party that knows the content.

Given the series it belongs to, that sentence is worth taking at face value.

The store readings of 3 September 2026

The eight national store pages were read on 3 September 2026, before the ESRB rating appeared: this reading predates the American rating, which the ESRB page shows on 5 October 2026.

The US store read "ESRB Rating Pending Mature 17+", with the descriptor "May contain content inappropriate for children". The French, Spanish, Italian, Polish and Turkish stores read "PEGI Provisional 18". The German one read "USK Rating Pending". The Brazilian one read "ClassInd Rating Pending".

Two words came back everywhere: pending and provisional. It was the store itself saying nothing had been settled, in each region's own language.

A French reader therefore saw an 18 where an American reader saw a 17+, and a German reader saw no figure at all. All three were reading the same thing: no rating had been issued yet, and the figure shown was the board's own estimate while it waited.

How do you check the rating in your region?

Search the rating board for your region by the game's name. The ESRB page exists and carries the age category and the content descriptors; the PEGI one will follow on the day Europe publishes.

The store listing follows, usually within days of the board publishing.

As long as the European official database returns nothing, any specific age you read online for the game in Europe is someone's guess.
