Mods and FiveM in GTA 6

One fact is settled: the team behind FiveM has belonged to Rockstar since 11 August 2023. On what that means for GTA 6 there is no announcement, and the team itself publicly asked people to stop asking.

The one settled fact

On 11 August 2023 the publisher announced on its official feed that Cfx.re, the team behind FiveM and RedM, was joining Rockstar Games. Those two platforms carry most of the roleplay servers on the two previous games.

The original announcement used the word "partnership", which caused confusion. The team settled it themselves weeks later in their monthly update: it is an acquisition. "Partnership" referred to working together, not to the nature of the deal.

The publisher also said it had expanded its mod policy to officially include those made by the roleplay community. That sentence is about the existing games, not the next one.

What the team explicitly refused to say

One line in that same announcement went almost unnoticed, and it is worth more than everything written since. The team asks readers to understand that its work with Rockstar concerns FiveM and RedM, then writes, in plain words: please do not ask us about the next GTA.

That is not a dodge. It is a statement of non-information, made by the only people in a position to know, published and dated on their own forum.

Since then the publisher has released nothing about modding in GTA 6. No announced support, no announced ban, no timeline.

Why the question is still on hold

Modding happens on PC. FiveM and single-player mods alike exist only there, because they need access to game files that consoles do not grant.

And no PC version has been announced. The question "will mods work on GTA 6" therefore hangs on an announcement that does not yet exist, and that is not a figure of speech: with no PC version, there is no ground on which the question arises.

It is also why a late answer would not be unusual. A modding platform is built alongside the version it targets, not before it.

What would not count as an answer

Two lines of reasoning circulate, and neither establishes anything. The first concludes from the acquisition that FiveM will be built into the next game; the second concludes the opposite, that the community will be brought to heel. Both start from the same fact and reach opposite ends, which mostly shows the fact settles nothing.

The second leans on the history between the publisher and modders, which has had its tensions. That history is real, but a precedent is not an announcement: it says what happened, not what will happen.

Loreside will not turn it into a probability. The day the publisher publishes something about modding in GTA 6, this page will cite it with its date and its link, and not before.

Frequently asked questions

Does Rockstar own FiveM?
Yes. The acquisition of Cfx.re, the team behind FiveM and RedM, was announced on 11 August 2023 by the publisher and by the team. Their September 2023 monthly update confirms it is an acquisition.
Will FiveM work on GTA 6?
Nothing announces it, either way. The FiveM team publicly asked not to be asked about the next GTA, and the publisher has released nothing on the subject since.
Will mods be allowed in GTA 6?
No policy has been published for this game. The expanded policy announced in 2023 covers the existing games. And the question only arises in practice on PC, where no version is announced.
Why does nobody answer clearly?
Because there is nothing to answer. Pages that give a firm answer are inferring from an acquisition more than two years old, whose same facts serve both opposite conclusions.
