GTA 6 on PC: no announcement, and two measurable precedents

There is no announcement of a PC version: no date, no window, no mention. Any date going around is a guess. What can be measured, however, is how long the publisher's two previous games took to reach PC.

What the publisher said

Rockstar announced a release on 19 November 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Those are the only two platforms named.

PC appears nowhere: not in the date announcement, not in the support page describing platforms and editions. There is nothing to read between the lines, not even a "later".

A site showing a PC date today did not get it from the publisher. It inferred it, or picked it up from another site that inferred it.

The two precedents, and what they are worth

Grand Theft Auto V launched on consoles in September 2013 and on PC on 14 April 2015, roughly nineteen months later.

Red Dead Redemption 2 launched on consoles in October 2018 and on PC on 5 November 2019, roughly twelve months later. Rockstar announced it on its official feed, with pre-purchase opening a few weeks earlier.

Two points do not make a rule. The gap narrowed from nineteen to twelve months between them, which says nothing about what comes next: neither the studio, nor the market, nor the publisher's priorities are what they were in 2015. These figures give an order of magnitude, not a forecast.

Which store, and why the date can differ

No PC product page exists today, on Steam, on the Epic Games Store, or on the publisher's own launcher. That takes seconds to check, and it is often the first trace to appear: a store opens a page before any statement goes out.

The most recent precedent shows that a PC release does not land everywhere on the same day. Red Dead Redemption 2 reached PC on 5 November 2019, and its Steam page shows 5 December 2019: a month apart between stores.

For a reader, that means out on PC and out where I buy are two separate dates, and the second one can come later.

Will my PC be able to run it?

No PC requirements have been published, and that follows from everything above: there is no announced PC version to publish them for. Any minimum or recommended spec list going around today is invented, however detailed it looks. Detail is not proof, and it is often what makes an invention convincing.

What is public is the hardware the announced versions target: PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, whose specifications are fixed and known. That is the only anchor available, and it says what the game was built to run on, not what a PC will need.

The precedent at least tells you where to look. For the publisher's previous game, the requirements sit on the store page: minimum around an i5-2500K with a GTX 770 and 8 GB of memory, recommended an i7-4770K with a GTX 1060 and 12 GB, for 150 GB of space. That is a different game, released seven years earlier. Those figures tell you where such requirements appear, not what they will say for this one.

How to know first, without thinking about it

A PC announcement will come through the publisher's official feed, and through storefronts opening product pages. Those are the two places we watch.

The day it happens, this page changes, with the source and the date. Nothing else will change it: not a rumour, not a leak, not a listing that appeared and vanished from a store.

Frequently asked questions

What PC specs does GTA 6 need?
None have been published, since no PC version has been announced. The spec lists going around are invented. Requirements will appear on the store page the day there is a version to attach them to.
Has a PC release date been announced?
No. No date, no window, no mention of a PC version, either in the release date announcement or in the support page describing platforms.
How long did the previous games take?
Roughly nineteen months for Grand Theft Auto V (consoles September 2013, PC April 2015) and roughly twelve months for Red Dead Redemption 2 (consoles October 2018, PC November 2019).
Can a date for GTA 6 be inferred from that?
No. Two precedents give an order of magnitude, not a forecast, and the gap between them already varied by seven months. We will put forward no date until the publisher publishes one.
Will the game come out on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One?
No. The only two platforms named by the publisher are PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Will the game be on Steam?
Nothing indicates it today: no product page exists on Steam or on the other PC stores. On the most recent precedent, Red Dead Redemption 2, the Steam page arrived a month after the PC release.
