One week before: pre-loading

Rockstar stated that buyers of pre-ordered digital versions can start pre-loading on 12 November 2026, seven days before release. The game downloads without being playable: it waits for the hour.

That is the moment to check free space on the console, not on the night itself. A download of that size started at midnight on a shared connection is a wasted night.

The exact size has not been published. It usually appears on storefront listings a few days before release; we will record it wherever it appears.

Unlock night: not the same hour everywhere

The publisher has not communicated unlock times. They do appear on storefront product pages, country by country, and we recorded them one by one.

The finding: of the thirty-three storefronts recorded, thirty open at local midnight. Three are exceptions and open at 05:00 universal time, which pushes the wait back by several hours for their players. The "midnight everywhere" rule, repeated in many places, is therefore wrong.

That difference is not trivial when you have booked a day off, or planned to play the moment it opens. It is also why a single worldwide countdown misleads: the only one that counts is your storefront's.

What will only be known at the last moment

A day-one patch is common on large releases: it downloads on top of the game, sometimes right before a session can start. Nothing has been published about it.

Storefront servers are under load at opening time, and downloads can slow down. That is precisely what pre-loading avoids.

We update the times page as soon as a product listing changes. If a storefront changes its opening hour, the change shows there, with the date it was recorded.
